Records are available as early as 1904 when the funeral home was located on First Street. The funeral home later relocated to Beach Street for several years and then moved into a new facility at the corner of 4th and Delta prior to 1920. Following World War I, Elmer Schaefer, Charles’ son, became active in the business. In 1927 Elmer Schaefer erected a new facility at 804 State Avenue in Marysville. It was known as the Elmer Schaefer Company and also as the Marysville Funeral Home. Times were lean for both funeral homes in the late 20’s and 30’s. Some years after World War II, the competition had closed its doors, and the Schaefer Funeral Home was serving nearly 75 families per year. Elmer and Stanley Schaefer were partners in the firm until Elmer’s death in 1962.
